Satire devices essay

Both devices utilize humor to convey meaning and fulfill their purpose. However, there are differences between them–particularly in their intentions. Satire intends to ridicule human and/or societal flaws, discrepancies, and inadequacies as a means of provoking an audience and challenging viewpoints.

As such, the best way to achieve this aim is by applying devices like irony, sarcasm and hyperbole. When used tactfully, these devices can have the desired effect on readers. Inasmuch as satirical essays employ devices like humor and exaggeration, it’s important to stick to plain facts when writing your essay.

Some shows on television are satire examples, such as The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and The Larry Sanders Show. These shows claim to target what they think are stupid political and social viewpoints.

Slapstick is the satirical device used to term a funny physical act. When someone cops a pie in the face, it is an act of slapstick comedy. Slapstick comes across as humorous because the event is often predictable but builds in anticipation until when the slapstick finally occurs we react by laughing.
